Known as Richard the Lionheart - ‘Coeur de Lion’ the Mighty Crusader

Born - 8th September 1157, Beaumont Palace, Oxford

Claim to the Throne - third son King Henry II

Died - 6th April 1199, Châlus, France.  Cause of death - gangrene (wounded by an arrow).

Buried - Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud, France

King John

Born - 24th December 1166, at Beaumont Palace, Oxford

Claim to the Throne - younger brother or King Richard I

Died -19th October 1216, Newark Castle, Nottinghamshire. Cause of death - dysentery.

Buried - Worcester Cathedral.

King Henry III

Born - 1st October 1207, Winchester Castle

Claim to the Throne - eldest son of King John and Eleanor of Aquitaine

Died - 16th November 1272, Westminster. Cause of death - natural causes.

King Edward I

Also known as ‘Longshanks’ - Edward was 6 foot 2 inches tall

Born - 17th June 1239, Palace of Westminster, London

Claim to the Throne - son of King Henry III and Eleanor of Provence

Died - 7th July 1307, Burgh by Sands, Cumbria.   Cause of death - dysentery.

Buried - Westminster Abbey

King Edward II

Also known as ‘Edward of Caernarfon’

Born - 25th April 1284, Caernarfon Castle, Wales

Claim to the Throne - fourth son of Edward I and Eleanor of Castile

Died - 21st September 1327, Berkeley Castle, Gloucestershire 

Cause of Death - reported to have been murdered whilst imprisoned but there is no solid evidence.

Buried at Gloucester Cathedral, Gloucester

 

King Edward III

Also known as Edward Windsor

Born - 13th November 1312, Windsor Castle, Berkshire

Claim to the Throne - eldest son of King Edward II and Isabella of France

Died - 21st June 1377, Richmond Palace.  Cause of death - stroke.

Buried - Westminster Abbey

King Richard II

Also known as Richard of Bordeaux

Born - 6th January 1367, Bordeaux, France

Claim to the Throne - grandson of King Edward III

Died - 14th February 1400 Pontefract Castle, Yorkshire.  Cause of death - died of starvation.
