King Edward VII enjoyed gambling, particularly horse racing - his horses won the Derby in 1896, 1900 and 1909, and the Grand National in 1900.
This museum (National Heritage Centre) was opened by Queen Elizabeth II. A fascinating museum for those interested in the history of horse racing; read all about horse racing through the ages and look at the impressive photos. Newmarket is rich in culture; allow the whole day for the visit. Open - Monday to Sunday 10.00 am to 5.00 pm.
Admission fee: adults £15.00, students £8.00 and children under the age of 16 – free.
Trains depart from London’s King’s Cross Station to Newmarket and take approximately 1hr 26 minutes. It is a 10-minute walk from the station to the Museum via Park Lane.
