Walthamstow Parish Workhouse – Vestry House Museum - King William IV

During William IV’s reign, The Poor Law Act (1834) was passed by the Whig Government, Charles Grey (Earl Grey), who was Prime Minister.

Vestry House Museum, Vestry Road, Walthamstow, London, was built in 1730 as the Walthamstow Parish Workhouse, it is a small museum but has many fascinating items to view and gives a good impression of what life was like in the Victorian era.

The museum has a gift shop and a nice garden to walk around - could probably spend a good hour, entry is free.

Trains leave from London Liverpool Street Station to Walthamstow Central - average journey time - 15 minutes, it is an 8-minute walk (via St Mary Road) from Walthamstow Central tube station to the museum.
