Bank of England Museum, Bartholomew Lane - King William III
The Bank of England was created during the reign of King William III. The bank initially opened with 17 clerks and is presently the 8th oldest bank in the world. Queen Elizabeth II was the first monarch to appear on a Bank of England banknote.
Admission is free, open Monday to Friday 10.00 am to 5.00 pm (last entry 4.30 pm). The museum details its history and famous people associated with the Bank; the museum’s collection includes coins, banknotes and paintings as well as short films to watch.
The nearest tube station is ‘Bank’ (Central, Waterloo, Northern and City Lines). A minute’s walk via Bartholomew Lane and Threadneedle Street.
