Lieutenant-General Oliver Cromwell - ‘The Commonwealth’

Oliver Cromwell signed the death warrant, together with 59 other men, of King Charles I.  Cromwell was a brilliant military leader and was a Commander in the Army during the British Civil War until he became Lord Protector. The commonwealth was from 1649 to 1660.

The National Army Museum covers British Military History dating from the Civil War right up to modern day and is the army’s central museum. It was Field Marshal Sir Gerald Templer’s hard work and dedication in raising funds that made it possible for the army to establish this museum; he was head of the British Army from 1955-58.
