Eltham Palace (South-East London) - King Edward II

King Edward II was the first English Prince to be crowned the ‘Prince of Wales’ and the first King to live at Eltham Palace.

Eltham Palace was a royal residence from the 14th to the 16th century; it is open to the public Monday to Sunday: 10:00 to 17:00 (opening times may vary in the winter).

The entrance fee for adults is £16.00 and children aged 5-17 £9.60.

The palace was given to King Edward II in 1305, by the Bishop of Durham. The palace has been a film location for numerous television programmes and films, and it is listed on the English Heritage’s list of ‘most haunted places.’

Trains depart from both London’s Cannon Street Station and Charing Cross to Mottingham railway station (both) trains take about 25 minutes; day return ticket from £9.30. 

From Mottingham railway station it takes about 18 minutes to walk - via Court Road to Eltham Palace; if you prefer to take the bus - numbers include 124, 160 and 161 - short walk to the palace. Bus costs approximately £2 - and taxi about £6 to £8.
