Camden Square - 50-52 London Irish Centre - King Henry II

King Henry II was the first English King to invade Ireland - 17th October 1171, with an army of over 4,000 men, landing in Waterford. This was the start of English rule in Ireland.

The Treaty of Windsor 1175 was signed at Windsor between Henry and Ruaidri Ua Conchobair (Rory O’Connor) who was the last High King of Ireland.

The Irish community in London is one of the capital’s oldest; generations of Irish people made London their home and the ‘London Irish Centre’ hosts many events which promote Irish culture.  (In 1965 the Kennedy Hall was opened, and in 1968 Bing Crosby visited the Irish Centre.)  From Camden Town Station it is a 12 minute walk via Camden Road, 2 minutes in a taxi or bus number 29 and takes about 8 minutes.
