Royal Ascot (Racecourse) founded by Queen Anne
It was during the reign of Queen Anne that the first race meeting was held at Ascot (1711). The first race was ‘Her Majesty’s Plate’ with a prize of 100 guineas, it took place on 11th August 1711. Ascot has a special week of racing in June known as 'Royal Ascot' members of the Royal Family attend.
The racecourse is approximately 6 miles from Windsor Castle. Trains leave from Waterloo Station (journey time approximately 52 minutes). From Paddington Station the journey time is just over an hour to Ascot. From Ascot train station it is a 10-minute walk to the racecourse.
