Luxury Ocean Liner - Queen Mary (named after Mary of Teck mother of King Edward VIII)
It was during The King’s reign - 27th May 1936 - that the maiden voyage of the luxury ocean liner Queen Mary took place and left Southampton for the last time on 31st October 1967, (retired) she sailed to America where she is permanently moored at the port of Long Beach, California.
RMS Queen Mary II is the largest ocean liner ever built (launched 21st March 2003).
Cruise ships dock at the port of Southampton as it is in fact Europe’s leading turnaround cruise port.
Trains from Waterloo Station to Southampton Central, average journey time 1hr 17 mins, from there it is a short taxi ride to the port (about 10 minutes) - the cruise ship port comprises 2 docks.
(It was the White Star Dock, Berth 44 which the Ocean Liner Titanic sailed from.)
