St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church - Soho Square, London - King Henry II
King Henry II was the first English King to invade Ireland - 17th October 1171, with an army of over 4,000 men, landing in Waterford. This was the start of English rule in Ireland.
The Treaty of Windsor 1175 was signed at Windsor between Henry and Ruaidri Ua Conchobair, who was the last High King of Ireland (who recognised King Henry II as his Overlord).
St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church was consecrated on 12th September 1792 and was one of the first Roman Catholic churches to be built in London after the Reformation - worth a visit if in the area, close to Tottenham Court Road tube station.
