Canterbury Cathedral - King Stephen
King Stephen was crowned King twice: Westminster Abbey and Canterbury Cathedral.
Canterbury Cathedral was originally Roman Catholic but is now the Church of England and is the Cathedral of the Church of England’s leader - the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Building started in 597 but was rebuilt between 1070 and 1077 - it is where the murder of St Thomas a Becket took place (29th December 1170). The cathedral has magnificent architecture, its first archbishop was St Augustine, who arrived in Kent in 597 AD and was given a church in Canterbury by King Ethelbert.
Trains to Canterbury Cathedral leave from Victoria Station, London Bridge Station and St Pancras International. The journey time varies but from St Pancras (one change) to Canterbury East about 1hr 15 mins.
Canterbury train station (East) is a 10-minute walk (via Castle Street) to Canterbury Cathedral.
