Winchester Cathedral King William I

In 1079, King William I, demolished the old cathedral in Winchester and began the construction of the present Norman Cathedral. 

Winchester Cathedral is the longest medieval church in the world; it is the burial place of some of England’s earliest Kings. Also, Jane Austen, a famous author, is buried in the cathedral’s north nave aisle. Winchester is a town rich in history.

Trains depart from Waterloo and Paddington stations, average time 60 minutes. 

It is a 12-minute walk from Winchester train station to Winchester Cathedral, via Jewry Street and just a few minutes longer via St Peter Street.
