Sudeley Castle, Winchcombe, Gloucestershire - Lady Jane Grey, known as the ‘Nine days Queen’

Lady Jane Grey spent time at Sudeley Castle which is now a popular tourist attraction in the Cotswolds, near Winchcombe, Gloucestershire and set in stunning grounds.  Queen Mary I granted the castle to Sir John Brydges, who attended Lady Jane Grey, at the scaffold (execution), it was in his family for 100 years.  

The castle’s chapel, St Mary’s, is the burial place of Queen Catherine Parr - sixth wife of King Henry VIII (marble tomb). The castle was one of Henry VIII’s royal residences.

The castle is a Grade I listed building and has 9 individual gardens.

Castle is open from March to December.

Entrance fee: Adults £14.50 and Children £5.50.

Trains depart from London’s Paddington station to Cheltenham Spa, which depart hourly, change at Lansdown, Cheltenham Spa Railway Station, take the bus to Cheltenham Clarence Street (buses every 20 minutes 9 m DEN), change at Cheltenham Primark and take the bus to Winchcombe War Memorial (21m bus every 2 hours NW) 15 minute walk to Sudeley Castle.

Trains depart from London’s Paddington Station to Gloucester - journey time about 1 hour and 50 minutes. It is possible to take a taxi from Gloucester to Sudeley Castle which could cost between £65 - £80 and may take about 25 minutes.
