Nottingham Castle - King Edward III
Nottingham castle is famous for ‘Mortimer’s hole’, allegedly haunted. King Edward III arrested Roger Mortimer and (Edward’s mother) Queen Isabella (described as the ‘She Wolf’) 19th October 1330. Mortimer was sent to the Tower of London and hanged at Tyburn, London. (The first nobleman to be hanged at Tyburn.)
The castle was built in 1068 and is associated with the legend of Robin Hood. The castle has a museum, art gallery and many gardens.
Admission fee: Adult £13.00 Children (5-17) £9.50.
Allow 2 hours to tour the castle. Opening times 10.00 am to 5.00 pm.
Trains depart from London’s St Pancras International to Nottingham, journey takes about 1 hour 50 minutes - fastest train journey 1 hour 30 minutes.
It is a 13-minute walk to the castle (via Castle Boulevard and 15-minute walk via Castle Gate) from the train station.
