Richmond Castle, Yorkshire - King Henry III

King Henry III invested in improving Richmond Castle and his son King Edward I also continued its development with the architecture of the castle’s ‘keep’.  A ‘keep’ is a tall tower within a castle.  Richmond Castle was built shortly after the Norman Conquest and is a fine example of an early Norman fortress; it is a Grade 1 listed building. The castle provides outstanding views.

Trains leave from King’s Cross London to Darlington Station (approximate time 2 ½ hours) change at Darlington and take the train to Market Place Richmond (approximate time 30 minutes). It is a 3-minute walk from the station to the castle via Tower Street.
