King William I

Known as ‘William the Conqueror’ - first Norman ruler

 Born - about 1028 in Falaise, Normandy, France

Claim to the Throne - William declared that Edward the Confessor had promised him the throne.

Died - 9th September 1087, Rouen, France. Cause of death - injuries (fall from horse) in battle.

Buried at Saint- Étienne de Caen, Normandy  

King William II

Born - 1056 Normandy, France

Claim to the Throne - William was the third son of four and was named successor by his father.

Cause of death - hunting accident, hit by an arrow - The New Forest, Hampshire, England.

Died - 2nd August 1100.

Buried - Winchester Cathedral

King Henry I

Also known as Henry Beauclerc

Born - between 1068 and 1069. North East of England thought to be Selby, Yorkshire

Claim to the Throne - Henry was the fourth son of William I and Matilda

Died - 1st December 1135, St Denis-en-Lyons, France. Cause of death - food poisoning.

Buried at Reading Abbey, but there is no burial site as the Abbey was destroyed during the Reformation.

King Stephen

Known as Stephen of Blois - the last of the Norman Kings

Born - in 1092, Blois, France

Claim to the Throne - nephew of Henry I and grandson of William the Conqueror.

Died in Dover 25th October 1154. Cause of death: appendicitis.

Buried - Faversham Abbey, Kent
