If you consider all the Kings and Queens of Great Britain, who would be the one, in your opinion, that you would salute in gratitude and why? Not necessarily the one who lived the longest, or who conquered the most lands, or has had the most architectural influence, but just perhaps some humble characteristic which made them special, for instance:
King George VI
King George VI inherited the throne after the abdication of his brother King Edward VIII and is high on the list when it comes to admiration because he ‘upheld the Monarchy during scandal and war' and was a man of strong principles.
King George VI suffered from a speech stammer (film - the King’s Speech) and worked very hard to overcome it with the help of an Australian Speech Therapist based in London, Mr Lionel Logue.
During the second world war both King George and Queen Elizabeth visited many bombed cities and towns throughout the country to boost morale. They remained at Buckingham Palace during the war, which was bombed, the King insisted upon staying with his people and family and quickly became a ‘war-time hero’.
King George did not want to be King, but accepted it and ‘got on with it’.
