Mahatma Gandhi 1869-1948

Gandhi met King George VI and it was during King George’s reign that Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated (1948). 

Gandhi studied Law at University College London and Inner Temple.

There is a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Parliament Square, it was unveiled on 14th March 2015.  It is 9 feet high and made of bronze.

Former Prime Minister, David Cameron, was present and said that “Gandhi was one of the most towering figures in political history.”  (Parliament Square is close to Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament.) Nearest tube station is Westminster.

There is also a statue of Gandhi at Tavistock Square Gardens (Bloomsbury); it was unveiled by Harold Wilson (Prime Minister), 17th May 1968.  Nearest tube stations - Russell Square and Euston.

Gandhi was an outstanding person, a lawyer, politician, journalist, author and peace activist - the list goes on, one of his many quotes - “Be the change that you wish to see in the world."
