‘The Whittington Stone’ - King Richard II

Richard Whittington became Lord Mayor of London during King Richard II’s reign.

Whittington was the real-life inspiration for the English folk tale of Dick Whittington and his cat.

There is a monumental stone ‘The Whittington Stone’ (1821) and statue of a cat at Highgate Hill, Archway - just over 3 miles north of Charing Cross.  Archway tube station - fare zone 2 and 3 - is on the High Barnet branch of the Northern line.
