Richmond Palace Remains - King Henry VII
Richmond is a town south-west of London and is an area rich in beautiful architecture. Richmond Palace was formerly known as Shene Palace but was destroyed by fire and rebuilt by King Henry VII, (named after his title Earl of Richmond); the palace was a favourite residence of Queen Elizabeth I, who died there on 24th March 1603.
The palace was demolished in the 17th century, remains of it include the Gatehouse, Trumpeter’s House and the Wardrobe.
Richmond station is on the South-West Trains, Waterloo to Reading Line and the London Underground ‘District’ Line and the London Overground North London Line - average journey time is 35 minutes - the fastest train time is 16 minutes.
