St Laurence’s Church - ‘The Cathedral of the Marches’ 2 College Street, Ludlow - King Edward V
In 1502 Prince Arthur, son of King Henry VII and heir to the throne, died at Ludlow Castle and his heart was buried in the nearby St Laurence’s church. Prince Arthur lived at the castle with his wife Catherine of Aragon.
This church is the 13th most popular free ‘place to visit’ in the West Midlands and was one of 18 churches given a five-star rating (1999) in Simon Jenkins’s ‘England’s Thousand Greatest Churches.’ Allow 1 to 2 hours for a visit, it is such a grand church for a small town, which reflects the area’s wealth in past centuries.
Ludlow train station is just half a mile from the town centre. Trains depart from London’s Euston station to Ludlow town - fastest train 2 hours 13 minutes but normally 3 hours.
