Arundel Castle - Queen Elizabeth I
Philip Howard, 20th Earl of Arundel, converted to catholicism in September 1584, and was committed to the Tower of London in April 1585, spending 10 years there until he died of dysentery. Philip was charged with catholic conspiracies against Queen Elizabeth I.
Today the Howard family (Duke of Norfolk and Earl of Arundel) is the most prominent English Roman Catholic family in England. In 1971 the remains of St Philip Howard (13th Earl of Arundel) were transferred from the Fitzalan Chapel (Arundel Castle) and enshrined in Arundel Cathedral.
This is a magnificent castle overlooking the River Arun and also has spectacular gardens.

Entrance fee: Adults from £11.00 to £22.00 depending on tour and children £5.00.
It is an 8-minute walk from Arundel Cathedral to Arundel Castle.
Trains depart from London Victoria Station to Arundel – travel time of journey approximately 1hr 30 mins.
It is an 18-minute walk (via The Causeway) from the station to the cathedral or a 5-minute taxi ride – cost about £5.00.
