Kenilworth Castle, Warwickshire - spectacular ruins and beautiful gardens - King Henry V

King Henry V was known as the ‘warrior prince’ and is most famous for his heroic victory at the ‘Battle of Agincourt’.

Kenilworth Castle was initially built in the 1120’s, but was improved over the centuries, it was used and extended by: King John; John of Gaunt (son of King Edward III) and King Henry V.

It was in 1403 that King Henry V (then Prince Henry) recovered from injuries at Kenilworth Castle, after being hit by an arrow into his skull and it was royal surgeon John Bradmore who saved Henry’s life.

Queen Elizabeth I, gave the castle to Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, who transformed it into a palace. 

English Heritage has managed the site since 1984, and it is a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Monument - which means such an historic building is protected from change.

Entrance fee: adults £16.50 and children aged 5-17 £9.90.
Opening hours 10.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Trains depart from London’s Euston station, change at Coventry for Kenilworth – fastest train 1 hr 40 mins.  Kenilworth is a 40 minute bus ride from Coventry. (Coventry and Leamington Spa are the nearest train stations).
