Hyde Abbey, Winchester
This is the burial place of King Alfred the Great, Ealhswith (wife) and Edward the Elder (son). The abbey was demolished in 1538 upon the instructions of King Henry VIII, and all that remains is the gatehouse.

St Barholomew's Church (address: King Alfred’s Place) is opposite Hyde Abbey Gate, ruins of the Abbey nearby, this is an interesting and very peaceful ancient church (12th century) and is about a 10-minute walk from Winchester’s city centre. (Fastest train from London’s Waterloo Station to Winchester takes one hour.)
