King Edward VII

It was on the death of Queen Victoria in 1901 that King Edward VII took the Germanic name of his father – Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.

The House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha descended from the Wettin family.  The Duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha ceased in 1918, when Germany became a Republic.

Died - 6th May 1910.  Cause of death - heart attack.
